Hands-On, Heart-Filled Private Educator Needed For 2-Month Contract In Kauai, Hawaii

A heart-filled, laid-back family of six is seeking a hands-on, collaborative private educator to join them for 6 to 8 weeks in Kauai, Hawaii!

  • Location: Kauai
  • Ages of children: 10, 9, 7, 4
  • Start date/Contract dates: April 11th through June 1st, with the option to extend for the perfect fit!
  • Schedule: Full-time, guaranteeing 40 hours per week with the general classroom schedule falling Monday-Friday from 8am-1pm, with additional prep-time accounted for outside of classroom time.
  • Compensation: The family is offering $45-50/hour based on the 40+ hour/week schedule which equates to a base compensation of $10-12+K for the 6+ weeks of the contract.
  • Benefits: The family is open to providing benefits including paid time off, relocation assistance, a vehicle for professional/personal use, and other benefits based on candidate need.
  • Live-in/Live-out: Live-in or nearby. Educator accommodations will be a cottage on the family's property, with its own kitchen, bath, bedroom, tv and living area, or a separate apartment off property within a 15 minute commute.

Household Dynamic:

  • This family has four active, spirited, free-range kids! They love to laugh, be outside, and play. Their parents describe them as full of energy, curiosity, humor, and feelings! The children love exploring the world and asking lots of questions. Their 10-year-old is empathetic, thoughtful, persistent and wise beyond her years; Their second-born is very energetic, intensely curious, and hilarious; Their 7-year-old is sweet, observant, shy, athletic and quiet about his gifts; and their youngest is your typical 4th child, cute as can be, boisterous, and full of snuggles.
  • The parents are excited to transition to a beachside classroom for the last few months of the academic year after having spent extended time on the island through the pandemic.They value their time in Kauai, as it allows their children to experience a different pace of life and a different way of being in the world. Both parents will be working remotely, and schooling will take place in the mornings, with time for surfing, tennis, hiking and other activities in the afternoon. They are excited to work with a candidate who can balance learning time with playtime, follow a child-led approach, and give the children freedom and independence.

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for a candidate who is excited to support fun adventures and create a positive learning environment! A candidate who has experience managing multiple kids and multiple grades in what is basically a one-room schoolhouse environment will be key as all of the children will be learning alongside the educator.
  • The educator will be responsible for managing curriculum by corresponding with the children’s school at home and creating an educational experience in Kauai that allows the kids to keep up with academic progress back home. The children’s school utilizes the Bridges math curriculum and Fundations for ELA, so some familiarity with these curriculums would be ideal. A keen eye for water safety and comfortability playing with and supervising children in the ocean will be key, as the family is planning to spend much of their time in Kauai at the beach.
  • A candidate who has experience traveling with families will be valued! Big bonus points for a candidate who can bring the learning beyond the classroom and bring an educational, adventurous, outdoorsy bend to their afternoons. Though not required, the family would be excited to welcome a candidate who is open to some childcare-related afternoon care, particularly as it pertains to watching their youngest son while the parents and the older kids catch waves, head out on a hike, or hit the tennis court in the afternoon.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of professional teaching experience in a classroom or homeschool setting
  • Experience teaching various age groups
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Fully vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 prior to start date in accordance with applicable laws
  • Bachelor’s degree in a child or education-related field and recent applicable classroom/private education experience is required
  • Ability to swim and comfortability caring for children in and near the ocean
