National Teachers Day is observed on the first Tuesday of the first full week of May (May 3, 2022) and this year, more than ever, we are excited to celebrate the incredible people who are instructing our young people.
Hybrid remote/in-person school has been the norm throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and there’s no denying that this has come with its own set of challenges for teachers, students, and parents. In the midst of such a difficult time, our teachers have done an amazing job navigating so many changes, and we are eternally grateful for their dedication. Everyone has had that favorite teacher that has helped inspire them, and kids these days are certainly no different. This wonderful day meant to honor teachers was actually created by a teacher, Eleanor Roosevelt herself. Eleanor Roosevelt was more than Franklin D. Roosevelt’s wife, she has a history of civic duty and was an advocate for fellow teachers. Her love for education began at a young age when she was privately tutored and encouraged by her aunt Anna “Barnie” Roosevelt.

- Have your student create a piece of artwork, write a poem, or film a short video thanking their teachers. Remember to think about how you’ll share the gift with the teacher remotely using photos or offering to mail the artwork.
- Purchase a gift card to the teacher’s favorite coffee shop, school supply store, or book store.
- Write a simple thank-you note. This may seem small, but these kind gestures are so meaningful coming from both the students and the parents.
- Share a social media post giving your teachers a public shoutout and tag the school.
Teachers contribute to such an integral part of our lives, and we are so thankful for the support and guidance we have all received from the educators in our lives.
