Household dynamic:
- This curious, organized CA-based family is seeking a dedicated and creative private educator to foster a deep love of learning in a personalized learning environment for their two gifted children! Both children are described by their parents as active, aware, curious, and thoughtful. They are both advanced learners and enjoy diving deep into things they are passionate about. Their 6-year-old son has sensory processing differences and will benefit from some extra support and attention (like Olaf, he loves warm hugs), and the family looks forward to having someone who can create an immersive learning environment for him to thrive. He loves math, science, art, music, and hiking. He does mathematics in his head, listens to podcasts, and has a great memory! He currently reads better in Chinese than in English and would benefit from additional support to build his confidence and skills in this area. Their 3-year-old daughter is highly verbal, already showing pre-reading skills, and loves drawing, painting, clay, and make-believe. They are excited to work with a private educator who can collaborate on developing a curriculum and create a balanced learning environment, combining formal learning sessions and fun activities throughout the day!
- This is a dual-career household where both parents are regularly in and out of the home. There is a dedicated classroom space in the home. They are passionate about nurturing their children’s love of learning, cultivating their children’s passions and interests, and supporting them in reaching their fullest potential. The kids are active and enjoy outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, swimming, and biking. The family loves spending quality time together and enjoys traveling throughout the year, spending traditional school breaks skiing during the winter. This upcoming summer, they will be visiting Europe. For summer 2026, they are planning a trip to Asia. A candidate who lives on the go and is excited to join and support the family on their adventures will be essential! The family employs a weekly housekeeper and mother’s helper for cleaning, laundry, and cooking, so someone who can work collaboratively with parents and other household members is important.
Ideal Candidate:
- This position is ideal for a warm, highly organized, creative, hands-on educator with a passion for nurturing two inquisitive, bright children! The family seeks to work with a caring and affectionate teacher who can naturally connect with the kids while creating an interactive environment that inspires a love of learning. The ideal candidate will have the ability to balance structured academics with playful, engaging activities. Creating a curriculum that integrates a lot of hands-on learning, a strong foundation in phonics, and a science-based math curriculum (i.e. Singaporean) will be key! A background in inquiry-based and science-focused learning approaches is strongly preferred. Both kids love the outdoors, so a candidate who encourages learning and education through nature-based and outdoor activities will be a great fit.
- Responsibilities will include collaborating with parents in designing and implementing an expert tailored-fit curriculum. The educator will develop progressive and thoughtful lesson plans that align with their son’s abilities in math, sciences, and problem-solving while fostering his confidence in writing and other areas where he requires gentle encouragement and attention. The educator will also support their daughter’s interests and early academic milestones through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities. The role will also include facilitating Mandarin language learning, either directly or by coordinating with a tutor three times a week. The educator will spend approximately seven hours each day with the children, balancing structured academics, hands-on activities, play social groups, and nature-based activities. Beyond academics, the candidate will plan and coordinate activities and social opportunities for the children, such as match circles/AoPS, art classes, trips to museums, and more. While traveling, the educator will be responsible for curating and leading educational excursions related to the curriculum.
- Preferred Qualifications: While not a requirement, the family would love to work with a candidate with any of the following:
- Teaching credential
- Experience with Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or other child-centered/inquiry-based teaching approaches
- Proficient/advanced level in Mandarin
- Comfortable with skiing and cold weather, enjoys being active outdoors and integrating outdoor learning into the classroom
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of professional teaching experience in a classroom or homeschool setting
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working with gifted kids
- Experience working with sensory processing diagnoses
- Excited to travel
- Ability to swim and comfortability caring for children in and near water
- Driver's license
- Valid Passport
- Fully vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 prior to start date in accordance with applicable laws
