Household dynamic:
- This literature and theater-loving family has four curious and active children ranging in age from 1 to 9 years old. Their 9-year-old daughter, 7-year-old son, and 4-year-old daughter are all in school Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm while their 1-year-old son is home interacting with and exploring the world around him. The children love to be outdoors, love animals and farm exploration, and are encouraged to get dirty and be children. There is a lot of action in this household! You might find the older kids practicing for a musical on the couch, having boisterous imaginative fun in the playroom, or admiring their bearded dragon and pet fish! This family also appreciates the cultural activities and conveniences of urban life. Mom and Dad are hands-on, attentive parents who are seeking help as they increasingly must divide and conquer. For early childhood, this family has adopted a RIE approach to infants and toddlers, and the older kids went to a Waldorf school when they were younger. The family values these educational philosophies and looks forward to working with a nanny who shares these values.
- This family loves to travel and has traveled across three continents this year. They plan to travel more internationally in 2023, including months at a time abroad, and they look forward to meeting a nanny who is excited to share in these adventures!
Ideal candidate:
- This position is ideal for someone who is a positive and proactive self-starter who sees the beauty of child-rearing as an art and a science. Familiarity with toddlers and elementary-aged children and shifting seamlessly from addressing a toddler’s needs to helping a 9-year-old with homework is key. The ideal candidate is able to be laser-focused on the children in public settings and be ready to step into all aspects of child care and household support. A candidate who is eager to work alongside parents in a mutually beneficial way and who is honest, loyal, and committed to the role will excel!
- The family is well-versed in RIE and Waldorf and they hope to meet a candidate who has knowledge and experience in these philosophies or who is willing and eager to learn. The family would also like to meet a candidate who has a Bachelor’s degree or higher in any field.
- Responsibilities include creating a warm, loving, and safe environment for the children to grow and thrive. Childcare duties include but are not limited to feeding, bathing, dressing, napping, morning and evening routines, school drop off and pick up, children’s meal prep, sibling support, and homework help. Child-related household tasks include but are not limited to meal prep, tidying, organizing children’s areas, and running errands as needed. A candidate who can see a need and proactively fill the need will thrive!
- The family is eager to work with a candidate who has experience traveling with families and young children and who is comfortable caring for children in and around water.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of professional childcare experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Experience or familiarity with Waldorf and/or RIE
- Valid passport
- Fully vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 prior to starting date in accordance with applicable laws
- Current flu vaccination for the duration of employment
- Experience traveling with families and children
- Ability to swim and comfortability caring for children in and near water
