We’re deep in the throes of the magical holiday season. For many folks, however, this season is less than magical and it’s especially difficult for those with young ones.
It’s important to take the time and energy to do what we can to uplift those in our community that are struggling, and the season of giving is the perfect opportunity to reach out. Involving your nanny kids in this can be an incredibly eye-opening and important experience for them. As with anything you do with your nanny kids, this is something you definitely want to run by the parents first and make sure that they’re comfortable with you broaching this topic, and involving the kids in some giving opportunities.
When it comes to giving back to those in need there are a few fantastic ways to get started, so let’s dive right in!
Identify A Reliable Charity To Support
One simple and meaningful way to get involved is to search for a charity or non-profit organization that is known to be reliable and responsible and send a gift. This can usually be done online, making it one of the quickest and easiest ways to give back. We recommend checking out Global Giving which is an organization that allows you to purchase gift cards for friends and family that they can then use on the website to support the charity of their choosing. Take a look at the website with your nanny kids, and describe some of the projects. Create a budget and ask the kids which projects they’d like to support and why. You could also check out Charity Water, we love their mission and sterling reputation.
Volunteer At A Local Organization
Another fantastic way to support those in need would be to locate a wonderful local charity or organization where you can spend time in person helping out. Community centers, nursing homes, and non-profits often have holiday meals and celebrations that they throw to offer folks that could use a bit of holiday cheer. Do your research and see if there are any spots where it would be appropriate to bring your nanny kids along, is there prep work or clean-up that you could help with? We recommend speaking to an organizer directly to be sure that the location will be safe and appropriate for kids well before you plan to show up. These in-person experiences can have such a positive lasting impact on your nanny kids, seeing the incredible humans that are in a different situation in life can really broaden their scope of empathy, and give them a tender heart for loving others. Create Handmade Cards For Military Folks That Are Serving Abroad
Our brave men and women in the armed forces are often stationed abroad during the holidays, and this can be such a difficult and lonely time for them. You can collect some great crafting materials for your nanny kids and have an afternoon where you talk about the overseas troops, (in an age-appropriate manner of course). Take some time to explain how we can send the troops some love and extra encouragement for the season.
