World-Traveling Family Seeks Engaging, Travel-Loving Teacher With Special Education Experience

Nationwide

An adventurous family that splits their time between Key West, Alaska, and the Caribbean, is seeking a travel-ready private educator for their 13 and 12-year-old girls for a 2+ year commitment!

  • Location: Alaska, Florida, and the Caribbean
  • Start Date: The position will begin as soon as they find the right educator!
  • Ages of children: 13 and 12 years old
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. The general schedule will fall on Mondays through Fridays. Classroom time is typically 8:30am to 3:30pm, with 1 hour per day reserved for lesson planning and communicating with parents and the Key West school district. The family follows a year-round academic schedule with numerous weeks-long breaks throughout the year.
  • Compensation: The family is offering $40 per hour based on the 35 hour per week schedule. The family may be open to candidates who are seeking a higher compensation package commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits: The family provides 4-6+ weeks of paid time off, paid holidays, health insurance stipend, a vehicle for professional use, and relocation assistance based on candidate need.
  • Live-out: Private and separate accommodations on or nearby the family’s properties will be offered, including meals provided.

Household Dynamic:

  • This on-the-go and loving return Adventure Nannies family has a true, adventurous spirit. Operating a heli-ski resort in Alaska from mid February through April, they spend their time during the off-season at their homes in the Key West or the Caribbean, and are always ready to travel at the drop of a hat! They are excited to welcome an Adventure Nannies private educator to the team to manage all things academic for their children, wherever the road takes them.
  • Their two daughters are similarly active, love to ski and swim, and are adaptable to any environment. Both girls have language-based learning delays, and are supported by school-provided curriculum and IEPs via the their school district that they follow whether in school or on the road. They are seeking an intuitive, proactive, kind, and engaging private educator to take the curriculum and run with it while working closely with the school in Key West to meet all benchmarks and reporting requirements.

Ideal Candidate:

  • The ideal candidate for this role will have a Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field with a background in special education.  As the girls thrive when their learning environment is separate from their home, the family has built schoolhouses in Alaska and the Caribbean that the private educator will have full use of to keep school and home separate. Ultimate flexibility will be essential as the family’s adventurous travel plans can shift at a moment’s notice! A candidate who is ready to travel, to apply their knowledge of learning delays, and who is a supportive and inspiring educator will thrive in this position.
  • Responsibilities while in Alaska and the Caribbean include implementing the children’s curriculum and IEP set by the school, while regularly updating and collaborating with their teachers. While in Key West, the candidate will attend the local public school and work with girls one on one, when time permits in the primary teachers schedule.
  • The family will work well with a candidate who is a confident communicator, is intuitive and proactive, and above all is excited about the opportunity to travel and explore with this adventurous and welcoming family. The candidate can anticipate supporting some daily routines, including driving the kids to possible school activities.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and passport
  • Bachelor’s degree in an education-related field, preferably special education
  • Preference for candidates with at least 2 years of classroom experience
  • Experience working with learning delays
  • Snow driving experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to implement IEPs and complete all necessary reporting for the school district in Key West
  • Ultimate flexibility and enthusiasm to travel at a moment’s notice and adjust to schedule/travel changes
