Professional, Confident, Dog-Friendly Newborn Care Specialist Needed For First-Time Parents On The Olympic Peninsula

West Coast

A thoughtful and nature-loving couple based on the Olympic Peninsula is seeking a newborn care specialist to support them as they welcome their first child this February!

  • Location: Chimacum, WA (just outside of Port Townsend!)
  • Ages of children: The family is expecting their first baby in February 2023
  • Start date/Contract dates: 3-4 month contract beginning late January 2023
  • Schedule: ~4 weeks of 24/7 care and 8-12 weeks of 12-hour overnight care.
  • Compensation: The family is offering an hourly rate equivalent to daily rates of $720-960 for 24-hour care and $360-480 for 12-hour overnight care, which equates to a base 3-4 month contract compensation range of $40-65k dependent on the candidate’s experience and the agreed-upon schedule and contract length. The family may be open to candidates who are seeking a higher compensation package commensurate with experience.
  • Live-in/Live-out: A bed in the baby’s nursery will be provided during working hours. The family will provide a guest cabin on the property for the candidate to use during time off. This is a  true timber frame cabin with a short elevated walkway to the main house. There is an electric “fireplace” style heater in the bedroom and a propane stove in the living room, so no need to carry in logs for a fire.

Household dynamic:

  • These first-time parents are strong believers in curiosity and creativity. They live a rural lifestyle and enjoy the Pacific Northwest rain, gathering wood for the wood stove, and exploring nature with their three dogs. They value respect, open communication, and honesty.
  • These dual-career parents, who typically work from home, will also be supported by a part-time family assistant and a birth doula, so a collaborative candidate will be key in this environment. They are excited to welcome a newborn care specialist into their home who can be a pillar of support as they navigate their new life with their first baby!

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for a candidate with recent applicable overnight NCS experience who is well-versed in providing warm care and supporting first-time parents. An NCS who considers themselves a partner to parents who can provide well-rounded, holistic care is key! They are hopeful for someone who can establish a strong foundation of sleeping and feeding routines. As one parent has a disability that impacts their left side, the family will look forward to welcoming a candidate who can support them in developing childcare systems to help them with baby care techniques.
  • Responsibilities include creating a nurturing and safe environment for the newborn to thrive, as well as other child-related tasks including prepping and sanitizing bottles, baby’s laundry, and tidying the nursery and generally bringing a supportive, all-hands-on deck attitude as these first-time-parents embark on this new adventure.
  • While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to welcome a candidate who is excited to be in and explore the beautiful surroundings of their 21 acres of land on the Olympic Peninsula of the Puget Sound.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience (as a newborn care specialist, night nanny, doula, or nanny)
  • Experience working as a newborn care specialist and/or doula with at least 5 families
  • Knowledge of every aspect of newborn care, including professional and working knowledge of feeding, bathing, and dressing infants, and preparing, cleaning, and sanitizing bottles
  • Experience and knowledge surrounding sleep conditioning, establishing routines, feeding routines, and developmental milestones
  • Newborn care specialist training, preferably through Newborn Care Solutions or another CACHE-accredited program
  • Fully vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 prior to starting date in accordance with applicable laws

This position is open to all Adventure Nannies candidates who are legally able to work in the US. Out of respect for the privacy of the families we work with, we cannot provide any additional information about this position other than what has already been provided in the job description.
