Dyslexia-Experienced Private Educator Needed For Loving Bay Area Family

West Coast

A dynamic, loving family based in the Bay Area is seeking an experienced, creative, and Slingerland-trained private educator to support their children.

  • Location: Bay Area, CA
  • Grade level of students: Elementary-aged
  • Start date/Contract dates: As soon as they find the right person with flexibility offered based on the candidate’s current academic year commitments
  • Schedule: This is a full-time position with the general instruction schedule falling Monday-Friday from 2-6:30pm (or similar). The family will be happy to compensate for research and preparation time outside of tutoring hours. The family travels for extended periods of time in the summer and during traditional school breaks, and are open to both on-site and virtual tutoring during these times.
  • Compensation: The family is offering annualized base compensation of $115-145+k/year dependent on experience.

  • Live-in/Live-out: Live-out. Temporary housing may be provided for the perfect relocation candidate.

Household Dynamic:

  • These kind, attentive parents have put together a tight-knit, wonderful fully staffed home where they value open-mindedness, kindness, and compassion. This includes a 2-person nanny team (including an Adventure Nanny!) that lovingly supports the family’s children. The family deeply values their staff and has a long history of longevity in their roles, with members of their current nanny team having been with the family for many years!
  • The family is eager to find a patient, collaborative, dedicated private educator who can provide tailored support for the children’s education and foster their academic independence! Their children learn with dyslexia and thrive alongside educators who are active listeners and work hard to build their confidence and toolkit for success.

Ideal candidate:

  • The family would love to work with an educator who is trained in the Slingerland methodology with proven experience successfully implementing this in a classroom or private education setting. Applicants with an Orton-Gillingham background and other combined experience may be considered if not trained in Slingerland instruction. An educator with a specific background in supporting students who learn with dyslexia is essential!
  • This position is ideal for a collaborative, confident educator who brings their patience and passion to each day by getting to know their students, from their unique interests to their learning styles. Someone who brings organizational savvy to the role to be a liaison between the household team and teachers, organize school materials and resources, assist with academic calendar management, and intuitively and proactively prepare for their students’ academic needs. Some travel or virtual instruction may be required, as the family travels frequently during traditional school breaks.
  • Responsibilities will include collaborating with parents, students, and teachers to create a tailored curriculum that supports the children’s academic and independent growth, supplementing provided curriculum with hands-on, inspiring learning experiences, ensuring educational milestones are being met, and proactively researching and implementing activities and goals. A supportive teacher and well-rounded role model who encourages the growth of the children as a whole will thrive in this role!

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of professional teaching experience in a classroom, homeschool, or tutoring environment
  • Valid driver’s license and passport
  • Fully vaccinated and boosted (when eligible) against COVID-19 prior to start date in accordance with applicable laws
  • Proven experience working with elementary and middle school grade levels
  • Experience working with children who have learning differences, such as dyslexia, in a classroom, homeschool, or tutoring environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or related field and experience in the Slingerland method
  • Willingness to travel as needed or provide virtual instruction while the family travels

This position is open to all Adventure Nannies candidates who are legally able to work in the US. Out of respect for the privacy of the families we work with, we cannot provide any additional information about this position other than what has already been provided in the job description.
